About the Opportunity

To be responsible for the overall merchant compliance function including managing multiple external supplier relationships, the Senior Payment Brand Compliance Manager has a pivotal role and responsibility in delivering UK and European merchant compliance strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously assess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business taking account of changing economic conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, managing restructures and the impact of new technology.

  • Ensure fees levied are minimised and bring together cross functional groups to work on mitigating merchant driven fines. Communicate those fines to the risk committee monthly along with plans to reduce/pass on fines/fees as appropriate.

  • Develop and implement best practice procedures and solutions to meet compliance standards and reporting requirements.

  • Define and execute UK and European strategy for; commercial (cyber security product delivery and sales, compliance fee management), supplier management, internal support requirements, merchant communications, processes, procedures and stakeholder management plans as well as making recommendations for industry led best practices to deliver high quality service levels.

  • Ensure customers are aware of their obligations to adhere to merchant compliance and card scheme rules and regulations and maintain strong plans for level 1,2 and 3 merchants detailing their compliance levels.

  • Overall responsibility for Account data compromise and merchant breaches including, reporting, mitigating, monitoring and communication with the customer and payment brands.

  • Develop and maintain a merchant communication strategy to minimise behavioural fees and develop collection strategies with relevant CSM teams to recover fees where necessary.

  • Develop business cases and initiate project requests where necessary to ensure system and process changes are undertaken to adhere to scheme mandatory requirements.

  • Keep a commercial focus on activities such as payment brand fees, non-compliance fees and supplier contracts.

  • Track and carry out commercial impact analysis of merchant compliance levels to the business and provide well thought out cost reduction strategies to the UK leadership team with full cost-benefit analysis.

  • Own the relationship with key stakeholders internally and externally such as CSM teams, product teams, the Card Brands, QSA’s and the PCI SSC and occasionally others.

  • Representing at industry level in card scheme issues and document the external viewpoint, share with relevant teams and provide commentary and best practice guidelines to leadership teams.

About the Desired Candidate

  • Minimum 3-5 years years experience in acquiring/compliance

  • In-depth knowledge of Card Processing

  • In-depth knowledge of Merchant Compliance

  • Thorough understanding of the UK Cards

  • Good understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework within the card industry

  • Strong experience of owning third party relationship management

  • Excellent understanding of both the MasterCard and Visa Card rules

  • Strong business management and evidence of negotiation and influencing skills appropriate to a matrix management structure

  • Confident, articulate, strategic in outlook but with well developed change management skills

  • Flexible approach to working and willingness to meet with card scheme supplier and customer

  • An ability to translate complex card scheme and regulatory laws and regulations and advantage

  • Experience of attending large industry meetings and adding value

  • Financial analysis skills desirable

  • Well developed analytical, reasoning and communications skills with demonstrable experience of working cross-functionally

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong influencing skills and track record of delivering in a matrix environment

  • Excel proficient

  • Frequent travel to Leicester required
